“Twitt… Quién?” es una extensión para Google Chrome que busca usuarios de twitter en las páginas visitadas y muestra información sobre ellos: “Twitt… Quién?” se puede descargar aquí.

La idea es enriquecer la navegación habitual, proporcionando -no intrusivamente, en un panel desplegable- información básica de los usuarios de twitter que aparezcan en cualquier página. (Al lado de cada nombre encontrado habrá una imagen que permitirá desplegar la información, y sobre el icono de la extensión aparece el número de twitteros encontrados, pudiéndose desplegar la información también desde ahí.) Con esto se consigue no tener que abrir una nueva pestaña para ver esa información, ya que muchas veces encuentra uno nombres de twitteros en alguna página, pero da pereza abrir sus perfiles para saber más de ellos. Además, haciendo login con la cuenta de twitter, la extensión dice si se sigue o se es seguido por los usuarios encontrados, permitiendo hacer follow directamente desde el desplegable. (Por tanto, aunque sea una extensión de twitter, creemos que no es otro cliente de twitter como extensión, sino un concepto diferente:-)

Hemos desarrollado la extensión @jorgelamb y @guillelamb (<– al lado de nuestros nombres deberíais ver un iconito si estáis leyendo esto en el lamboratory con la extensión instalada), una vez más con la importante colaboración de nuestro primo Pablo (<– aquí también deberíais ver un iconito;-) en las imágenes y el css para ponerlo todo presentable. En esta ocasión, tenemos que agradecer a otro “Pablo”, @PaulKinlan (<– iconito!;-), el aconsejarnos sobre cómo recorrer el DOM para encontrar un patrón, ya que tuvimos la suerte de charlar con él un poco durante el pasado DevFest en Madrid.

Técnicamente, hemos usado unas cuantas de las APIs de extensiones de Chrome, desde la de OAuth para el login en twitter hasta la de internacionalización (ya que la extensión está tanto en castellano como en inglés).

Somos conscientes de que la extensión no siempre encontrará los nombres o mostrará la información correctamente (por ejemplo, cuando la página carga cosas con AJAX, o use frames, etc.), y seguro que habrá más bugs (aunque esperamos que aún así resulte útil:-), así que adelante con vuestro feedback!

“Twitt… Who?” is a Google Chrome extension that looks for twitter users while you browse, showing information about them. “Twitt… Who?” can be downloaded here.

The concept of the extension is to enrich the browsing experience by providing -in a nonintrusive manner, through popup panels- information about the twitter usernames found in any website. (Beside every username found there’ll be an image from where the information can be displayed; also the extension icon will feature the number of twitter users in the site, being possible to open the information from there as well.) This means that opening user profiles in another tab is no longer needed; if a twitter user is found in a website, you can see his basic information just there. Additionally, one can log in with his twitter account, making the extension retrieve following/followed relations with respect to the users found, and enabling a “follow user” button just from the panel. (So we believe this is not yet-another-twitter-extension in the form of a browser client, but a browsing enhancer instead:-)

We, @jorgelamb and @guillelamb (<– You should see a little icon beside our names if reading this at the Lamboratory with the extension activated), have developed the extension once again with the great help from our cousin Pablo (<– You should also see a little icon there;-). In this occasion, other “Pablo” is to be thanked for: @PaulKinlan (<–little icon!;-) gave us some advice on how to walk the DOM searching a pattern, as we were lucky enough to get the chance to talk with him at the recent Madrid DevFest.

From the technical point of view, we have used quite a few of the Chrome extension APIs, ranging from OAuth for the twitter login to internationalization (as the extension is already available both in English and Spanish).

We’re aware the extension will sometimes fail to find twitter usernames, or will display the information in a weird fashion (for instance, when AJAX or frames are heavily used), and most probably there will be more bugs (hey, but we also hope it’s helpful anyway:-), so don’t hesitate to send us your feedback!
